Centre for African Research (CAR) was founded in 2013 in Gulu following the rising need for support services in research among local and international academia. The organisation works in partnership with other research institutions and projects, individuals and institutions in and outside the Great Lakes Region. The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees which comprises of seven members. The centre also provides training and induction courses on politics, socio-cultural life in the sub-region, and on governance and public administration issues in Northern Uganda .
